Kirk B. Michael, MBA, is a senior financial executive and advisor to H.S. Grace & Company, Inc. with extensive experience in corporate finance, strategic planning, risk management, and the energy and utility industries. His career includes serving as Chief Financial Officer of Duke Energy, Globeleq, Indianapolis Power & Light, E3 Greentech Enterprises, and SouthWest Water Company. He brings experience in international power generation, private equity transactions, utility finance, and financial management of both established businesses and startup enterprises.

Professional Experience
Mr. Michael has held senior financial leadership positions with major energy, power generation, and utility companies, as well as businesses involved in private equity investment and smart grid technologies.
As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Duke Energy, he was responsible for finance, strategic planning, and program management for six global business units with combined revenues of approximately $5 billion and 5,000 employees.
As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Globeleq, a private equity-backed company that owned approximately 3,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, Mr. Michael completed the full private equity investment cycle. This included taking the company from its startup phase through its trade sale over a four-year period.
At Indianapolis Power & Light, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the utility’s entire finance function. His responsibilities included new power supply project development, and he also served as Chief Risk Officer.
As Chief Financial Officer of E3 Greentech Enterprises, Mr. Michael managed the finance function of a startup focused on software and hardware solutions for the smart grid business sector. E3 Greentech Enterprises subsequently sold its assets to Intelligent Energy Solutions, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of MidAmerican Energy Holdings.
Mr. Michael also served as Chief Financial Officer of SouthWest Water Company, a private equity-owned water utility holding company. His responsibilities included strategic planning, financial planning and analysis, treasury, accounting and internal controls, and information technology.
Before his corporate financial career, Mr. Michael served as a nuclear submarine officer in the United States Navy and was certified as a Nuclear Engineering Officer.
